30 Day Book Challenge - Day 4: A Non-fiction book that you actually enjoyed

Day 4: A Non-fiction book that you actually enjoyed.

I have read ten non-fiction books so far this year. I actually enjoyed all of them, but the one I enjoyed most was this one:

I read Ben Franklin of Old Philadelphia by Margaret Cousins, a biography, aloud to my children. I did not realize the extent of Franklin's inventions. He was a truly brilliant man! Did you know he invented bifocals? Did you know that he was the first person to diagnose lead poisoning, even though he was not a medical doctor? Did you know that he founded the first circulating library in America? It seems that he invented everything! My kids and I just loved this book!

What about you? Have you read this book? If so, what did you think?

What non-fiction book did you enjoy this year? I would love to hear from you! Just leave a comment below!

  1. Haven't read that book.
The book that resonates through me is Life, In Spite of Me by Kristen Anderson and Tricia Goyer. It's about a teen girl who tries to commit suicide and lives. A heart-wrenching and heart-warming story that leaves you inspired and wanting to help teens. At least, it did for me.

    1. That sounds like an amazing book, Fredamans! I'm not sure, though, that I could read it. One of my best friends committed suicide, and it still pains me to this day. I just don't know whether I could relive it again!

  2. Great choice! I haven't read that one, but it sounds like something I'd enjoy.
My favorite non-fictions lately have been culinary-inspired books...Anthony Bourdain's Kitchen Confidential, or Michael Ruhlman's Making of a Chef. They're entertaining and make me very hungry. :)

    1. I'll admit that I haven't read any culinary-inspired books! I will have to remedy that some day :) I can definitely see how they would make me hungry, too!!

  3. I did know about the bifocals, but not the others. That man was amazing!

I just finished reading Momfidence, which was a funny and liberating book all moms should read. :)

    1. He certainly was, Jenn!

I have never heard of Momfidence, but it sounds like it would be a fun read! I'm going to check if my library has it, thanks!

  4. hmm, I was a bit surprised by the 'actually' in your title. It sounded like it is not common to enjoy non-fiction books. I believe I enjoyed the 29 I read so far this year. the latest one I reviewed, a fantastic book, was Little Princes, on Nepalese orphans: http://wordsandpeace.com/2012/10/23/2012-54-review-little-princes/.
and I keep saying I want to read a book on Benjamin Franklin!

    1. Hi, wordsandpeace. I left the "actually" in there simply because that was the way the activity was worded in the challenge that I copied and pasted.

If you are a regular follower of my blog, you know that I read and review a fair bit of non-fiction and that I "actually" enjoy it! I think, for most people, non-fiction is a bore. But I quite like it!

      Little Princes sounds very interesting!
