Guest Post and Giveaway with Tonya Cannariato, author of Dementional

Hi, everyone!

I am pleased to participate in Tonya Cannariato's Dementional Virtual Book Tour hosted by First Rule Publicity.

About Tonya:

A voracious reader since she was a toddler, and an ordained spiritualist, Tonya Cannariato has now presided over the marriage of her love of reading and her love of writing. She’s lived a nomadic life, following first her parents in their Foreign Service career through Africa, Europe, and Asia, and then her own nose criss-crossing America as she’s gotten old enough to make those choices for herself. She’s currently based in Milwaukee with her three loves: her husband and two Siberian Huskies. She suspects her Huskies of mystical alchemy with their joyous liberation of her muse and other magical beings for her inspiration. She loves to sleep, to watch her interesting dreams, some of which are now finding new life in written form.

How do you know it's love?
By Tonya Cannariato

If you look at love as defined by scientific phenomena, you know that there's a lot of speculation about its basis in pheromones and those biological chemicals adrenaline, norepinephrine, dopamine, and serotonin. These provide the physical responses that make your heart pound and your pupils dilate when you're around the object of your obsession. These are the types of information Mark Inman, the main character of Dementional, would look for and focus on.

He's found the markers of someone who loves him in Sarah, in her human form. What happens, though, when he loses that reassurance? If he's not himself, in his own body, and can't determine what the physical markers are for himself, how is he going to verify his connection with someone who doesn't resemble the woman he committed to in the first place?

Mark believes his travels through space-time are powered by an experimental failure that should only affect him. The fact that he continues to encounter individuals who reflect various aspects of the people he had known in his original timeline confuses and distresses him; yet he can't not look for the analogue of the woman he loves.

This is where the romantic in me picks up the thread. I know from my dreams the experience of seeing someone and knowing who they are, while their physical form does not comply with the details I know of their current individuality. Which made me wonder: What is it that ties a soul to physical form, and could it be something science might define on a sub-atomic level?

Could it be that there is an explanation waiting for us in particle physics that shows how we are who we are, though we might be reflected as an infinite variation of ourselves across dimensions? If so, maybe Mark's experience could point us in the direction of closer understanding of who we are in relation to those with whom we are in relationships—and possibly give a basis in fact to the romantic trope of having and finding a soul-mate.

Thanks so much for joining us today, Tonya!

One lucky winner will win a signed copy of Tonya's science fiction/romance novel, Dementional.

Mark Inman has two loves: particle physics and Sarah. She agrees to become his wife at the same time his experiment to find the Higgs boson goes off the rails.

Journey with Mark while his existence melts and reforms in unpredictable ways as the veils between realities thin. His exploration of the minutiae of quantum physics builds a fascinating tapestry of alternate universes.

His search for survival, and the search for meaning and what is real, drive Mark as he experiences lives he never dreamed possible. His only touchstones: find Sarah and find his way home.
