BOOK REVIEW: Mrs. Claus Takes A Vacation by Linas Alsenas

TITLE: Mrs. Claus Takes A Vacation
AUTHOR: Linas Alsenas
PUBLISHER: Scholastic Press
DATE OF PUBLICATION: October 1, 2006
FORMAT: Hardcover, 32 pages
ISBN: 978-0439779784

Mrs. Claus needs to get out of the house. The endless snow at the North Pole is getting her down. And she doesn't see why her husband should get all the travel time in the family. So she hitches up the reindeer and takes a world tour -- leaving Santa to take care of himself (and the remaining reindeer) for the first time in a long time. Mrs. Claus loves traveling the globe... but she also misses Santa as much as Santa misses her. Will she be home in time for Christmas? We'll give you one guess...

I read this book aloud to my children.

This is a whimsical tale about Mrs. Claus, who is feeling terribly tired of sitting at home alone each year while her husband gets to travel the world! Promising to return before Christmas Eve, she packs her bags to set off on her adventure.

Santa worries how bored and lonely Mrs. Claus likely is, but the illustrations convey how much fun she is having! least in the beginning. Soon, everywhere she looks, she is reminded of what she is missing back home and cannot wait to return! Santa is so happy to have her home that he asks if she would like to accompany him on his annual journey, and they set off together!

My kids and I just loved this book! It was funny, sweet, and heartwarming. We plan to read it every Christmas!

MY RATING: 5 stars!!
