Spotlight Saturday: Guest Post and Giveaway with Shaun Allan

Hi, everyone!

Welcome to another edition of Spotlight Saturday at Darlene's Book Nook, where we feature authors and their books!

We will be joined today by Shaun Allan.

About Shaun:

I've been writing since I was knee-high to a giraffe.  I don't think I could quite hold a pen when I was nose to knee with a grasshopper, but I was pretty young when I started.  It's been my life-long dream to complete a novel.  I had so many ideas and stories that needed to be told, I didn't really have a choice, and 2011 is the year my first full length novel was finished.

Over the years, I've written many stories and poems, and won competitions with a few.  I've been published in a multitude of magazines and have appeared on Sky TV debating the pros and cons of web based publishing as opposed to the more traditional kind, thanks to an online magazine I used to run - me, who produced an ezine from my home up against one of the main agents for a major literary house.  Scary stuff!  The magazine drew in submissions from all over the world and gave a showcase to those that either didn't want to find magazines and other publishers or actually couldn't.  If I liked it, I published it, it was that simple.  As the Kindle was one of the top selling items online, I think web based publishing most definitely has its place in today's world and it's companies like Fantasy Island Book Publishing and places like SmashWords that bring it all to life.

Well, we bring it to life, they help nurture it.
I've worked, previously, as a laboratory technician, a teacher and, for the past so many years, in the Oil industry.  I live with my partner, our wonderfully insane daughter, and our baby girl.  That's right, I'm surrounded.

At least I have the three cats and myriad fish to keep me company!  Oh, and all my friends I meet when I write.

Welcome to Darlene's Book Nook, Shaun!

Shaun has written a guest post, so I will now turn the floor over to him!

Guest Post by Shaun Allan

Christmas is coming
The goose is getting fat
But I eat turkey
So I'm not too fussed 'bout that

I'm waiting for the snow to fall
The temperature to drop
The river outside my house to freeze
The world to come to a stop

And though the ducks will walk on water
And the air will be just biting
I'll be fine with pen and paper
As long as I am writing

This time last year I was in good cheer
For my book was almost done
Ten years had raced in such a blur
But now the race was won

And since that time I have been blessed
With reviews so very fine
My ten year journey went by so fast
It only felt like nine!

Now Christmas is coming once again
And more books I have in store
Like Zits'n'Bits and Rudolph
And soon so many more

I love to write, creating worlds
No man has walked upon
And to take a reader by the hand
And share with everyone

I also love to find myself
Taken by a writer's hand
And led to places far and wide
Discovering whole new lands

I guess that on my Christmas list
I'd ask for a few more hours
For writing, reading, marketing
You need some special powers!

Just a couple, five or so
More hours in the day
And I might get to do the things
That keep on slipping away

Work and life and family
I thoroughly enjoy
But to fit it into 24
I'd have more Me's to employ!

But so it is and such is life
It only makes us stronger
But, Santa, if you're listening
Can you make my days a little longer?

Thanks so much for joining us today, Shaun! I share your Christmas wish, LOL!
