Spotlight Saturday: Guest Post and Giveaway with H. David Blalock

Hi, everyone!

Welcome to another edition of Spotlight Saturday at Darlene's Book Nook, where we feature authors and their books!

We will be joined today by H. David Blalock.

About David:

H. David Blalock has been a writer for print and the internet in speculative fiction for more than 35 years. Inspired by the science fiction and horror writers of the early and middle 20th century, he continues to try to bring that sense of wonder and awe he felt at that reading to his audience through his stories and novels.

Welcome to Darlene's Book Nook, David!

David has written a guest post, so I will now turn the floor over to him!

Guest Post by H. David Blalock

I know when a writer does a guest blog, they're supposed to be serious and wise and informative. I know they're supposed to portray all writers as people steeped in the wisdom of the ages. Protectors of the most profound secrets of humanity. Cogitators of the first order. Guides to a better world.

Sigh. Too much pressure. Let me tell you a secret.

I write because I can't dance. Really. I can't dance, and that annoys me sometimes. But, I find that anything that moves me to feel also inspires me to write. Non salto, ergo scribo. I have been writing a long time, and never really learned to dance. Maybe for fear that if I do, I won't be able to write any more, I don't know.

So, in my latest fit of pique over my inability to please Terpsichore, I wrote about the underground war between the forces of Light and Dark. I called this effort "Angelkiller" after the main character's honorary title, and mostly because it sounds good. Imagine my delight when my publisher and editor agreed. Nothing gives a writer a warm fuzzy like a happy publisher. And having a happy editor lets us get away with so much more.

I get to mix angels and computers in this book. How cool is that? Better than dancing anytime.

I confess, I have inflicted fiction before. Many times. I am a serial fiction inflictor, a multiple offender. An unrepentant one at that. I have struck the printed page and the computer screen with equal alacrity. From short fiction to long, I have wielded my pen in equal measure. My victims have been magazines, webzines and anthologies. Novellas and novels. Even a (gasp) poetry chapbook. Am I sorry? Do I feel remorse? No. I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

Unless I learn to dance.

Thanks so much for joining us today, David!

Giveaway:

One lucky winner will receive a copy of Angelkiller.

This giveaway is limited to entries from Canada and the United States only at the publisher's request.
SYNOPSIS:

Meet Jonah Mason, the oldest, and most experienced of the Angelkillers, an elite force in the Army of Light.  They are fighting an ancient war, one in which the Darkness achieved a great triumph long ago that has had profound influence on the fabric of life as we know it.  It is the simple answer as to why bad things happen to good people.

The great battle may have been lost, but the war continues in a modern age, pitting Jonah against the Enemy in a way even he had never faced.  A provocative mixture of the supernatural and technological, Angelkiller is a very special, thought-provoking tale, one that shines forth in the upper realms of urban fantasy literature.
