This is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week, they post a new Top Ten list that one of their bloggers will answer. Everyone is welcome to join!
Today's list is:
Ten Things On My Reading Wishlist
- The ancient civilizations time period fascinates me. Specifically, I would love to see more books set in Ancient Egypt. Maybe a time travel book to that time period?
- I've recently discovered that I enjoy WWII fiction and non-fiction, but I have trouble finding fiction for other wars. I used to homeschool, and we used a rich literature-based curriculum to learn history through historically accurate fiction. I find that I retain facts so much easier this way than by reading dry textbooks. I find that it actually stimulates my appetite to read more non-fiction on this subject.
- I generally avoid contemporary romances, but I'm listening to Wallbanger by Alice Clayton right now and it's hilarious! If there were more funny contemporary romances like this, I might actually read more of the genre!
- Really, REALLY scary books! I love horror books, and I want to read something that freaks me out so bad that I have to sleep with the light on or that gives me a good scare.
- More unputdownable books! My only sit-down time to read is at bedtime, and that usually means that I can't read more than half an hour before I start to nod off. I want a book that is so gripping and thrilling that I can't put it down and has me reading into the wee hours! I can't remember when I last did that!!
- More books with plot twists that take me by surprise! I love a good psychological thriller or mystery/crime/suspense novel that can blindside me.
- You know that movie National Treasure starring Nicolas Cage? I love, love, love that movie! I want books like that, with clues to figure out and a real adventure type of story. I love the ties to history that this one has, but it doesn't have to. If you have recommendations for me, do tell!!
- More books set in far-away destinations! I'd love learning about a different country's culture or traditions in a fictional setting. I think a travelling cozy in different countries would be fun. Does one exist??
- Realistic fiction that is not YA. I want more books with characters that struggle with real-life issues like eating disorders, drug addiction or alcoholism.
- YA books with platonic guy/girl relationships. Why does every guy/girl friendship have to wind up with them falling in love? Can't they just be best friends??
If you have any recommendations for what's on my wishlist, please leave me a comment! So, what things are on your reading wishlist? Please let me know in the comments, or leave me a link to your blog post if you are also participating in the meme!
I also recently discover that I love anything set in WW2! after reading Between Shades of Gray, all that I have been reading are books set in WW2. Nothing else!

Yes Darlene! I need more historical fiction not based on WW11 as well! I mean, I love them, but it can get a little monotonous, especially since most of them are focused on US, UK, France and Germany!
