Favourite Books in the Paranormal Romance and Urban Fantasy Genres

This is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week, they post a new Top Ten list that one of their bloggers will answer. Everyone is welcome to join!

Today's list is: Favourite Books in the Paranormal Romance and Urban Fantasy Genres.

Black Dagger Brotherhood series by J.R. Ward: Hands down, this is my favourite Paranormal Romance series. I love vampires, and Ward's alpha males are rough and tough with hearts of gold! The romance parts are red-hot and steamy!!

Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs: This is one of my favourite Urban Fantasy series. Mercy is a "walker" and can shift to coyote, and she was raised by a pack of werewolves. She totally kicks ass!

Alpha and Omega series by Patricia Briggs: This urban fantasy series is set in the same world as the Mercy Thompson series, but on a slightly earlier timeline. Personally, I have found that this series falls more into the Paranormal Romance genre. Briggs writes on her website: "The series has plenty of action, but there's more emphasis on the romantic attraction between the hero and heroine. On a romance-readers scale, this series is sweet rather than steamy."

The Others series by Anne Bishop: This is a fantastic urban fantasy series! Bishop's world-building is incredible, and she has created an amazing array of unearthly beings.

Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer: I loved this YA urban fantasy series. As is usually the case, the movies didn't do the books justice! I just cringe when I watch Kristen Stewart.

So, what are your favourite books in the Paranormal Romance and Urban Fantasy genres? Please let me know in the comments, or leave me a link to your blog post if you are also participating in the meme!

  1. I have read and love all of the books in your list - I like the bad-girl strength in the Jane Yellowrock series too (UF) by Faith Hunter. Her new Soulwood series is taking off nicely too - more mystery than Fantasy but the paranormal beings are there too. Pauline E.

    1. Ah, yes, you have reminded me that the Jane Yellowrock series is on my TBR mountain. I bought the first two books on Audible but haven't listened yet. It sounds like I would also enjoy her Soulwood series, so I will add that to my Wishlist :)

  2. I need to read the Mercy Thompson books. I'm looking for the right urban fantasy series and that sounds very promising.

  3. I loved Twilight back in the days. No the movies was so bad. I did love the first movie but after that everything went the wrong way with them.

    1. I actually hated the first movie! The acting was so bad. I couldn't believe that the movie became the sensation it did amongst the people who hadn't read the book! The books were so much better. My favourite movie was Eclipse, and I think that probably is because of the special effects with the werewolves.
