After leaving Society and desperately searching for the Rising - and each other - Cassia and Ky have found what they were looking for, but at the cost of losing each other yet again: Cassia has been assigned to work for the Rising from within Society, while Ky has been stationed outside its borders. But nothing is as predicted, and all too soon the veil lifts and things shift once again.

In this gripping conclusion to the number-one New York Times-best-selling Matched Trilogy, Cassia will reconcile the difficulties of challenging a life too confining, seeking a freedom she never dreamed possible, and honoring a love she cannot live without.
MY REVIEW:

This series started off so strong. I absolutely loved Matched! It was one of my favourite reads in 2011. I really enjoyed Crossed but felt it wasn’t as good as its predecessor. I had high hopes that Condie would recapture in Reached what I loved so much about Matched, but this last installment in the trilogy was a little lackluster for me.

The Society is crumbling. When a fatal illness sweeps through the Society and they can no longer contain how widespread the outbreak has become, a rebellion known as the Rising swoops in to save the day. The Plague makes victims become “still” and fall into a coma-like state and will eventually die without a cure. The Rising say that they have the cure, and they begin treating the victims. Then the virus mutates, and the Rising’s cure is no longer effective. Can the Society and the Rising work together to find the cure in time to save everyone?

Secrets are revealed and the past is uncovered, but the excitement just wasn’t there! I thought that the pace of the book moved a bit too slowly, to the point where my mind was drifting while I was listening which NEVER happens. Even the triangle between Xander/Cassia/Ky lost its angst and drama. I have to say, though, that I like how the book ended and who wound up with whom!

I liked Reached, but I thought the series as a whole declined with each book in the trilogy so I am a bit disappointed. I still like Condie’s writing and plan to read more of her work.

It has been a long time since I heard Kate Simses, and her voice is perfect for Cassia. I have no idea of Ms. Simses’ age, but she genuinely sounds like a teenager! Jack Riccobono returns again as Ky, and I thought his pace was a bit off. For me, his narration was a bit slow. It has been so long since I listened to Crossed, so I can’t recall if his pace was slower in that book as well. A third narrator, Matt Burns, was added for Xander as this book was told from all three points of view. He is new-to-me, and I enjoyed him.
