Eve Dallas is a New York police lieutenant hunting for a ruthless killer. In over 10 years on the force, she's seen it all - and knows that her survival depends on her instincts. And she's going against every warning telling her not to get involved with Roarke, an Irish billionaire - and suspect in Eve's murder investigation. But passion and seduction have rules of their own, and it's up to Eve to take a chance in the arms of a man she knows nothing about - except the addictive hunger of needing his touch.
MY REVIEW:
Lieutenant Eve Dallas investigates the death of the Senator's granddaughter who worked as a legalized prostitute. As Eve works the case, she gets closer than she should with the main suspect, who is a friend of the Senator's family and a billionaire.
The story is set in a futuristic version of our world, where police officers use lasers instead of guns and where real coffee is a luxury <gasp!>. I was fascinated with the world-building that Robb developed, and the pace and action of the storyline was excellent. I really enjoyed getting to know Eve, who is a very complex character. We learned a bit of her background and what has made her who she is, and I can't wait to see her character develop throughout this series. I really didn't care for Roarke at first, but he grew on me. He understands Eve so well, and I can see why she fell for him. I really like Eve's ex-partner, Ryan Feenie, and I hope there's more of him to come!
I can't believe that I've waited 20+ years to start this prolific series (#48 to be published next year), and it will keep me busy trying to catch up! I'm looking forward to reading the next one in the series, Glory in Death.
Memorable quote:
“You know, lieutenant, you wear your weapon the way other women wear pearls."
Susan Ericksen's narration was total ear candy for me. I can definitely see myself listening to this one again, even though I don't often do re-reads. I'm planning to continue the series on audio, and I hope Ericksen does them all!

Love this series. I am pretty behind on it. I think I am on the fourth book. It gets better and better!
