"Stacking The Shelves is all about the books we are adding to our shelves each week, sharing with you our excitement for our newest titles and maybe have you discover a new book in the process!"
Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on your blog and showcase books and things we have received. Share news about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead. See rules here: Sunday Post Meme
Last month, we headed west and visited two provinces and clocked 2,363 km. This time, we are heading east to a provincial park in a neighbouring province that we've never visited before! It's about three hours away, and roughly 530 km round-trip. This one will give me more down-time with not as much time on the road. The kids and I will do lots of hiking and swimming in the lake.
The forecast looks good with lots of sunshine and little rain. Let's hope it holds!!
Have you all been taking advantage of the FREE audiobooks that SYNC has been offering? I love this program! Each week during the summer, there is a new pair of audiobooks up for grabs and you need to download them before the new pair is up which takes place every Thursday at 7:00 AM EST. The pairing consists of a newer YA book with a classic or non-fiction title, and it's based on a weekly theme. The books are suitable for ages 13+.
Here are the Week 15 FREE audiobooks, which you can download HERE. You have to download them by 7:00 AM EST on August 10th. Once you have downloaded them, the audiobooks are yours to keep forever and listen at your leisure.
Here is information about Week 15's theme:
AudiobookSYNC’s penultimate week of the 2017 season takes a journey back to World War II’s Eastern Front. A well-researched teen novel and a memoir reveal lesser known stories of young women involved in the war.
Golden Kite Award-winning BETWEEN SHADES OF GRAY, by Ruta Sepetys, takes us to Lithuania and into the wartime life of 15-year-old Lina, who has been deported with her mother and brother to Siberia. Imprisoned there, uncertain of her own fate and the fates of her loved ones, Lina paints and draws in an effort to maintain her own humanity. Narrator Emily Klein’s Earphones Award-winning performance brings Lina and her family to life, pulling the listener into a harrowing and fact-based account of spiritual as well as physical survival.
Irene Gut Opdyke and Jennifer Armstrong detail Opdyke’s experiences when she was a 17-year-old German Catholic pressed into service by the Nazis. IN MY HANDS: MEMORIES OF A HOLOCAUST RESCUER recounts how she turned the situation into an opportunity to save Jewish prisoners starving in the ghetto. Narrator Hope Davis lends her voice to making Opdyke’s situation, and her heroic actions, fully resonate with today’s listeners.
Thanks to Listening Library for these two audiobooks that are free to download and keep forever. Be sure to secure them before 7 am Eastern Time on August 10.

I snagged Between Shades of Gray at a local thrift shop. I can't wait to read it!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful time on your road-trip vacation! Swimming in a lake sounds lovely; I haven't done that in years.
ReplyDeleteI've picked up a few of the SYNC books this year, but this year's selection hasn't appealed to me as much as two or three years ago, so I've skipped some of them. It's a great program overall, though!
Between Shades of Grey is such a great book. Enjoy the vacation, the pic is gorgeous.
