July Wrap-up

We started off the month on a short five-day road trip. It was four days of driving, with only one down day, but it was manageable. I would have loved to have stretched it out, but that wasn't possible. Next time, definitely!!

Our weather has been gorgeous, not too hot. Best of all:

Oh, no...hope I didn't jinx it! Normally, we are plagued with mosquitoes, so much so that we cannot enjoy the evenings outdoors. Oddly, this is the first year that the city has NOT fogged with malathion...you know that nerve toxin that the World Health Organization deemed "carcinogenic" in 2015? Yeah, our city has been fogging with it for 30 years! I find it very odd that the first year without malathion and we have had NO mosquitoes! Also, I'm seeing more of the beneficial bugs like ladybugs, bumblebees, and dragonflies. There's never been a summer like this one year with no mosquitoes and I'm loving it!! Alright, now on to the books!

I finished six books this month! Not as much as I hoped, but I was on the road for the first week of July and didn't do any reading. Here they are:

4 stars
Final Girls

2 stars
Into the Water
by Paula Hawkins

Final Girls was definitely my stand-out favourite read of the month. I think I OD'd a little bit on the mysteries this month, so I need to read other genres for a bit.

My least favourite book was Into the Water. What a disappointment! I had really high expectations, since I am such a fan of The Girl on the Train, so I'm a little bummed about that one.

I discovered three new authors, and I continued on in one series (Broken Angels). I tried something new, a graphic novel, which was a bit out of my comfort zone but I enjoyed it more than I expected! Perhaps, that was because I'm already a fan of the Mercy Thompson series. No matter though, because I'll read the next volume in the series!

  1. I just got Final Girls from my local library! I can't wait to start it! We've also had pretty good luck with the mosquitos this year *knock on wood*
