AUTHOR: Beth Revis
PUBLISHER: Self-published on Wattpad

FORMAT: E-book
LENGTH: 36 pages

What events shaped Orion and turned him into the man he was at the start of Across the Universe? This story explores just that.

Orion started off as just another Elder, due to inherit the leadership of the spaceship Godspeed. When he starts to question the world around him, though, things quickly change. He meets a young woman that he may have feelings for. But if she gets in the way of his revenge, he can ignore his feelings for her...right? Or is love a choice after all?
MY REVIEW:

This novella gives us a look into Orion’s past and helps us to understand what made him rebel against Eldest.

As Eldest’s predecessor, he is one of the few on Godspeed that is given inhibitor pills to counteract the effects of Phydus. Eldest wants people to live freely on Godspeed, but Eldest is afraid that a mutiny would destroy them which is why he relies on Phydus to keep everyone under control. When Orion starts to question Eldest’s decisions, Eldest tries to kill him.

When Orion sees the new clone that has been developed to take his place as the next in line to take over the ship, he reminisces about his own upbringing and he pities the new Elder.

I wish the story would have been longer. We learn the circumstances under which Orion meets Mags and then they become involved in a romantic relationship, but it would have been nice if their relationship had been more fleshed out. They each have their own ideas about how to overthrow Eldest, and I didn’t really like how Orion handled the matter! I think it was very unfair!! I actually kind of liked Orion in the series, but this novella actually turned me against him for what he did to Mags!

You can read this novella for free on Wattpad.
