I haven't touched a human in three years. That seems like it would be a difficult task, but it's not. Not anymore, thanks to the internet.

I am, quite possibly, the most popular recluse ever. Not many shut-ins have a 200-member fan club, a bank account in the seven-figure range, and hundreds of men lining up to pay for undivided attention.

They get satisfaction, I get a distraction. Their secret desires are nothing compared to why I hide... my lust for blood, my love of death.

Taking their money is easy. Keeping all these secrets... one is bound to escape.

What if you hid yourself away because all you could think of was killing? And what if one girl's life depending on you venturing into society?

Enter a world of lies, thrills, fears, and all desires, in this original thriller from A. R. Torre.

MY REVIEW:

Deanna (aka Jessica) is a 19 year old cybersex operator, who can earn in one month what takes most people one year. She orders everything she needs online, so she never has to leave her apartment. Her shrink says she has anthrophobia, a fear of human interaction, but it's more than that. Deanna's mother murdered her entire family before committing suicide, and Deanna is worried that she has inherited her mother's homicidal tendencies. She is obsessed with murder and lusts for it, and she feels the only way to protect others from herself is to stay behind closed doors. She has an arrangement with a neighbour that he locks her in every night, from the outside, so that she can't get out when the temptation is greatest.

With the nature of her work, Deanna meets a lot of men online who have varying degrees of kink. There's one client in particular that has her unnerved with how he wants her to dress and behave, and he doesn't call her Jessica like the other men but a different name. Deanna gets a bad vibe from him and asks another client, who is a techno wizard and helped her set up her system, if he can track down this guy and find out more about him. She thinks he is acting out his pedophilic fantasies with her online, and she's worried about the risk to this girl in real life.

There are a lot of gratuitous sexual scenes as Deanna describes the different kinds of kink she encounters, but it does have relevance within the context of the story and points to the type of clientele that frequent Deanna's website.

I realize that this book is not for everyone. It's really dark, but I'm a sucker for flawed characters and Deanna is a hot mess! Her bloodlust is scary, but it frightens even her which is why she has isolated herself from society. However, her fear that a little girl is in danger is what draws her out and she just may get to satisfy her biggest temptation with a little vigilante justice!

This author is new to me, and I can't wait to read more from this series!

MY RATING:
