Stacking The Shelves and Sunday Post

This meme is hosted by Tynga over at Team Tynga's Reviews, which she describes as follows:

"Stacking The Shelves is all about the books we are adding to our shelves each week, sharing with you our excitement for our newest titles and maybe have you discover a new book in the process!"

Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on your blog and showcase books and things we have received. Share news about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead. See rules here: Sunday Post Meme

So this happened:

Yup, that's snow! In September!!! I guess I shouldn't be surprised because we had +30 temps in May, so early summer and early winter! I've never had to turn on my A/C in May before, but I did this year. I've also never had to turn my heat on in September. I have a rule about not turning it on before the first snowfall. So, the snow came and the house chilled off to 15 degrees Celsius (that's 59 degrees Fahrenheit), so I turned the heat on to 16 degrees :)

The dusting of snow has melted but, looking ahead at the forecast, we have only single-digit highs except for one day and the lows are hovering just above zero. Last September, we had +30!! But, I can't complain. As I said, we had an early summer and it was hot and dry. I, for one, have been enjoying the rainy weekends...although I would prefer if the snow held off a wee bit longer! I do like to enjoy a proper autumn.

I'm so glad that I took care of closing the pool early in the month. I haven't been able to do much in the way of raking leaves and yard clean-up with the rainy weekends. Hopefully, I'll still have a chance to do that before the snow comes and stays.

The kids and I have been under the weather this week. Back to school means the kids are coming home with new germs, so we all have a cough/cold/sinus/sore throat bug going on. Plus with the rainy weather, I've had a headache now that's been going on for a week. However, I remembered that last winter when I was sick, I took a Chinese herbal formulation called Fei Re Hua Tan and it had me better in just a day. I dug through my cupboard and took two doses yesterday and I'm nearly 100% today! I can't believe the difference!! Here's a pic of the tablets in case anyone else is under the weather and needs something that works:

The description says: "Traditional Chinese Medicine to remove heat from the lung, relieve cough, resolve phlegm and relax bowels. It is traditional used for heat in the lung marked by cough, yellowish sticky phlegm, dryness of the mouth, sore throat, and constipation."

I had sinus pain/congestion, chest pain/congestion, headache, dry mouth, and sore throat with cough. This stuff is amazing! I know herbology says that our bodies respond best to the herbs that are indigenous to the area where you live but, for me, my body responds better to Chinese herbs than Western herbs when it comes to cold/flu formulas.

No new books for me this week!

  1. What!!! Snow already. And so cold too. The Farmer's Almanac says we are going to have a brutal winter, especially in March which is our coldest month. Though we don't get snow barely ever, we can get ice storms. I'm hoping it's wrong! And I hope you all feel better soon.

  2. Snow?! We’ve just had rain and fog here so far. We don’t usually get snow until the end of October. I hope everybody feels better soon. Have a great week.

  3. OMG snow! I'm enjoying cooler nights but Wow. In Minnesota I was used to snow from maybe October to June. Mostly Dec - Apr. I moved to NC and we usually only get one snow which melts in a day.
I hope you have a great reading week! Anne - Books of My Heart
