May Wrap-up

Wow, we are halfway in 2018!! Our April was cooler than usual, but our May has been hotter than usual! The majority of May has seen unseasonably warm weather and we've been +30 degrees Celsius. The last few days have brought much needed rain, which has cooled things off a bit but I'm not complaining. I love rainy weather because then I have an excuse to curl up and read! Otherwise, I'm usually outside doing yard work.

My reading sure slowed down in May. I blame that on being stuck on an e-book for a little over three weeks (The Girl with All the Gifts). I really enjoyed the book, but I find that I read e-books much more slowly than regular books. Is that just me?? I don't know why that is. That's probably the reason why I hate to read e-books and seldom do so!

I went from an all-time high of 14 books in April to a very average 9 books in May, which is still up from 8 books in May 2017.

There were a few stand-out favourites this month:

The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky: I've been putting off listening to this audiobook for years. Contemporary books are just not my thing! I've heard this book is great, but I shied away from reading it because this genre (usually) isn't for me. I absolutely loved the book and hope the movie lives up to it!

A Stranger in the House by Shari Lapena: I love psychological thrillers where everyone has a dark side. Bonus points that she's a Canadian author!

Never Let You Go by Chevy Stevens: This is my third book by this Canadian author, and she hasn't disappointed me yet! I haven't written my review for this one yet, but it'll be 5-stars.

I didn't read any duds. Everything was at least 3 stars. If I had to pick the most disappointing book, I'd have to say The Deep by Nick Cutter (another Canadian author) and that's only because he wow'd me so much with The Troop and this one wasn't quite as good as that one.

I discovered seven new authors (including one Canadian, Lapena), and I started three new series (Carey's The Girl with All the Gifts, Barrett's A Booktown Mystery, and Wiggins' Stung).

I read seven backlist books including three from Canadian authors compared to two new releases. I listened to seven audiobooks plus one paperback and one e-book. My year-to-date books read total is currently 55, and my Goodreads goal of breaking 100 this year tells me that I'm currently 14 books ahead of schedule and should exceed my goal!
