Stacking The Shelves and Sunday Post

This meme is hosted by Tynga over at Team Tynga's Reviews, which she describes as follows:

"Stacking The Shelves is all about the books we are adding to our shelves each week, sharing with you our excitement for our newest titles and maybe have you discover a new book in the process!"

Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on your blog and showcase books and things we have received. Share news about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead. See rules here: Sunday Post Meme

My older daughter is already finished school, since she wrote her last exam on Thursday. She is now done! My younger daughter still has four days left of school. Do they really do anything anyways in the last couple of weeks?? It seems like lots of parties and field trips. Hey, that's alright! I don't really mind that, but if there's no actual "learning" and the kids just have to be there to fulfill some academic requirement for the number of days, then what's the point?! I know she'd rather be home with her big sister swimming in the pool!

Yay!! SYNC is back!! If you are not familiar with this program, you can download two audiobooks FOR FREE every week for the next 5 weeks. The only catch is that you have to download them before they are replaced with a new pair every Thursday at 7:00 a.m. EST. Once you download them, you can listen at your leisure and they are yours to keep forever!

Here is some info on this week's offerings:

We’re celebrating Pride Week this year with a teen novel and a stage play. Be sure to catch both of them!

From Dreamscape Media, we are able to provide the first in a series by Bill Konigsberg. OPENLY STRAIGHT, narrated by Pete Cross, gives listeners a character who wants the opportunity to experience high school without everyone knowing he’s gay. Even though he’s been met with acceptance by both family and classmates, Rafe wonders what life at would be like if he were seen as someone without a gay label. Cross does a fine job giving us a hero who has lots of external humor to share while, at the same time, wrestles with honesty within himself. Join the narrator in this interview about his work on this week’s free audiobook.

Paired with this novel is a play by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa from L.A. Theatre Works. With a full cast, DOCTOR CERBERUS mixes humor, horror, and a coming out story. Steven Culp, Pamela Gray, and Jarrett Sleeper, with Simon Helberg in the role of 13-year-old Franklin, perform in front of a live audience, placing listeners like you right there in the theater, too, as Franklin tries to lose himself—and his family—in a bath of Saturday Night Horror Movies hosted by his quasi-hero Doctor Cerberus, played by Jamison Jones. Cue the horror music and settle in for a night at the theater.

It's a pleasure to be able to share audiobook listening for Pride Month that combine lighthearted fun with awareness that LGBTQI rights still require conscious support and active work to maintain. Thank you to the audio publishers who make this week's free downloads possible.

Happy SYNC season to all! Now download this ninth pair and start listening! Go HERE.

As you may have noticed in the blogosphere, many people are celebrating June Is Audiobook Month ("JIAM"), and Audiobooks.com is giving away a free audiobook every Friday but only to the first 500 people. You need to download the app, and then search for the book title. The giveaway for Friday, June 29th is Chocolate Chip Cookie Murder by Joanne Fluke. You don't need an account to sign up. You will know if the 500 limit threshold has been reached if you are prompted to use a credit. I totally missed out on the first two giveaways, but I downloaded these last two on June 15th and 22nd:

Wings of Fire: The Dragonet Prophecy
by Tui T. Sutherland
(Wings of Fire, Book #1)

Ragdoll
by Daniel Cole
(Fawkes and Baxter, Book #1)

I bought this from Amazon Kindle Store (I know, total shocker since I hate e-books, but I'm loving this series and this novella is only available in this format):

Radiant
by Cynthia Hand
(Unearthly, Book #2.5)

I received these audiobooks for review:

Unwelcome Guests
by Anna Willett

Something in the Water
by Catherine Steadman

Cottage by the Sea
by Debbie Macomber

Thanks again, Tantor Audio and PRH Audio!

  1. Wow-still in school?! We have been done since May 30th! And as a teacher, yes, the last few days are almost always just to fulfill state requirements for number of days/hours. So lots of parties, movies, field trips, etc!

  2. Great info about various audiobook giveaways. I have only seen a little about sync while visiting other blogs. I am not a big fan of YA so it may not be good for me. But I am participating in JIAM and didn't realize about the Friday giveaways. Cool. There have been so many great audiobook events this month. Anne - Books of My Heart

  3. I don’t know about other kids, but I didn’t get much learning done during the last few days of school. I was always too busy goofing around with my friends. Have a great week!
