Stacking The Shelves and Sunday Post

This meme is hosted by Tynga over at Team Tynga's Reviews, which she describes as follows:

"Stacking The Shelves is all about the books we are adding to our shelves each week, sharing with you our excitement for our newest titles and maybe have you discover a new book in the process!"

Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on your blog and showcase books and things we have received. Share news about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead. See rules here: Sunday Post Meme

Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there! Hope you have a beautiful day!! The weather here is gorgeous, expecting a high of 27 degrees Celsius (that's 80 degrees Fahrenheit) so I'm going to spend some time outside in the yard this afternoon enjoying the sun!

Round Two of the Stanley Cup Playoffs has been exciting! The Winnipeg Jets had a chance to clinch the series with Game 6 on Monday night, but the Nashville Predators won with a shut-out and tied the series. So much for home ice advantage!

That meant that the Winnipeg Jets had to play Game 7 in Nashville. For this entire series, the Jets have played better on the road and this night was no different. They won against the Predators, winning the series 4-3! It was a really exciting game.

Look at that Windicator! We are halfway there.

That means that we are taking on the Golden Knights in Round Three. Viva Las Vegas, baby! #GoJetsGo

We played Game 1 last night. At one point we were leading 3-0 in the first period. It was a fast-paced exciting game, and we won!!!

Game 2 tomorrow night. #GoJetsGo

Ha ha, gotta love Homer!

Yay!! SYNC is back!! If you are not familiar with this program, you can download two audiobooks FOR FREE every week for the next 11 weeks. The only catch is that you have to download them before they are replaced with a new pair every Thursday at 7:00 a.m. EST. Once you download them, you can listen at your leisure and they are yours to keep forever!

Here is some info on this week's offerings:

For Week 3 of SYNC 2018, we’re offering a pair of audiobooks in which boys are running for their lives. Some teen listeners will identify with one or another of these young people while others, through listening, can discover empathy for circumstances in which they have never found themselves.

JOHNNY GET YOUR GUN is a detective mystery written half a century ago by John Ball and newly brought to audiobook format by award-winning narrator Dion Graham, for Brilliance Publishing. Listeners will forget quickly that this title is as old as it is because its story could be set today with unfortunate credibility. Police detective Virgil Tibbs is assigned to find a small, bullied boy who has stolen his parents’ gun and taken off from home. Complicating the relationship between the detective and the parents is the fact that Tibbs is black, and the white parents don’t trust that he is both capable and interested in saving their child. Graham has recorded the whole Virgil Tibbs series and does a smart job of giving voice to the detective’s interior life as well as to the people with whom he works and copes in his role as civic guardian. You can read about the character of Virgil Tibbs in the 1978 collection by Otto Penzler titled The Great Detectives: The World’s Most Celebrated Sleuths Unmasked by Their Authors.

Paired with this mystery novel is the autobiography of Abbas Kazerooni, who narrates ON TWO FEET AND WINGS for Brilliance Publishing himself. At the same age as when Johnny was stealing his parents’ gun, Kazerooni was escaping, on his own, from Tehran. Living on his own in Istanbul, Kazerooni grows up relying only on himself, learning how to judge who might be a true friend and who is a dangerous enemy. What happened to Kazerooni? You can read this interview to find out.

Week 3’s fiction and nonfiction both give listeners authentic voices and insights on how to cope when life seems to be unrelentingly frightening. What would you do in Johnny or Abbas’ place?

Happy SYNC season to all! Now download this third pair and start listening! Go HERE.

  3. Happy Mother's Day! I am seriously so happy for your Jets! I was rooting for them to knock out the Preds and now I'm hoping for them to knock out the Knights since the Knights took out my Sharks! You got a bandwagon Jets fan here for however far they go! :) If you ask me, I'd love to see a Jets v. Capitals Stanley Cup Final.

  4. OK I'm not a huge hockey fan - odd since I lived in MN for so long, but have you seen Kevin Hearne's sort of hockey tweets. He is freaking funny. Anne - Books of My Heart
