2012 Harry Potter Reading Challenge

Hi, everyone! Time for another 2012 Reading Challenge!!

I failed miserably in the 2011 Harry Potter Reading Challenge!

I actually read the first one - Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone - when it first came out. Then, I loved it so much that I decided that I wanted to share it with my kids (I didn't have any at the time). So, my books have been gathering dust on the shelves waiting for my kids to be old enough. Well, the time is now! I intended to read the series during 2011, but life just got busy and we were busy reading other books.

I was very happy to find a new Harry Potter challenge for 2012 because we plan to at least start the series next year. I know Goblet of Fire is supposed to be darker, so I'm not sure they'll be ready for me to read that one just yet. We'll see.

This challenge is being hosted by Penelope at The Reading Fever.

The Challenge:

Read all seven books in the Harry Potter series during 2012.

1. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone
2. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
3. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
4. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
5. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
6. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
7. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

- The challenge will run from January 1st, 2012, to December 31st, 2012. Books read before or after this time frame do not count. You can join anytime until the challenge ends.

- Books can be in any format: Print, ebook, audiobook, etc..

- You do not have to review the books to participate, although you are more than welcome to. If you choose not to review, you can also do the following and still be eligible for prizes:

- Answer the discussion questions each month

- Create a post talking about each book after you finish (any topic)

- Just update your kickoff post after each book

- Those without blogs can leave a comment with their thoughts/review/review link.

- Because this is open to those who have already read HP, old reviews will be accepted. Whether you have read the books within the challenge time frame is on the honor system, so please be honest!

- Be sure to leave the relevant links in each linky to be entered into the drawings for prizes (more on that below).

Once the challenge begins, there will be a new item in the menu bar titled: 2012 HPRC. This will take you to a page that will list all the related posts and linkys where you can post your reviews or discussions.

Extra Credit:

Read at least one book per month, starting in January. If you do this you will be done well before September, which is when you can join me at Potter Con 2012, the first online HP conference!

Each month, I will have a new linky on my blog where you can come to post your reviews/discussions of each book you have read. These will correspond with that month's book (Jan. = Sorcerer's Stone, Feb. = Chamber of Secrets, and so on).

In addition, I will post discussion questions about each book that you can answer on your blog, or in the comments of that post.

Watch the corresponding movie at the end of each book, and experience them with a fresh new viewpoint.

Tweet with me throughout the year! #2012HPRC

Sign Up:

To enter the challenge, make a kickoff post on your blog, include the challenge button, and link it back to this post. Then sign up using the linky below.

Non-bloggers welcome! Sign up in the comments section, and then you can continue to participate by posting in the comments section each month. You can also post reviews on other sites like Amazon or Goodreads, and leave links in the comments. Don't forget to sign up below!

Sweet Stuff:

Throughout the year I will be giving away items related to Harry Potter, for those participating in the challenge. Full details on these items will be available later, but I have plans for things like a wand, HP jewelry, books, and other cool stuff.

At the end of the challenge, I'll have a grand prize giveaway with lots of good stuff, and possibly a boxed set of the entire series. Participating in the extra credit activities will earn you more entries for this!

If you would like to join me in the challenge, click on the challenge badge at the beginning of this post.

I am going to keep track of my progress below and link up my reviews as I go:

    1. I signed up as well! I am pretty excited about this actually as I have never re-read the whole series. Good luck!

    2. Hey, I am participating in this challenge too! I can never say no to re-reading harry potter.

Did you get my tweet from earlier about my bookworm santa? I also put the information about it on my blog, but the signs ups end on saturday and we will start pairing people up and emailing them beginning on Sunday of this week. You should have your information sometime next week.
