Letter From a Vampire: A Valentine’s Day Guest Post
By Rusty Fischer, author of Vamplayers

Dear Mortal,

“Merry Christmas!”

Oh, I know, for you humans it’s only February 14th, aka Valentine’s Day. But for us Vampires, well, you might as well be wrapping your throats in bright red ribbons and sticking them under our trees. (Not that we decorate trees this time of year or any time of year, but you know what I mean.)

You see, Valentine’s Day is a day when vampires from all over the land – from Transylvania to Tampa, from Twin Forks to Tuscaloosa – dust off their best duds, polish their fangs and head out for a fun and festive night of heart-draining.

And why not? Valentine’s Day was built for us vampires, if not created by us vampires. (Though our “hearty” thanks go out to one Saint Valentine for turning February 14th into an all-you-can-drain Human Buffet!)

Think about it: Valentine’s Day makes people – single people, anyway – desperate. And desperation is the vampire’s best friend. The closer the mortal calendar comes to Valentine’s Day, the riper the picking for us vampires.

I often wait until the week of Valentine’s Day to begin my annual holiday stalk, lingering longingly in the greeting card section of your drug stores, looking sorrowful, even pitiful, on lonely bus stops, even bumping into eligible bachelorettes – literally – at your grocery stores. (Though never in the produce aisle, for obvious reasons.)

So if on February 12th or 13th you are suddenly besieged by tall, dark, handsome strangers, beware; it might not be that new perfume you’re using or scar your mother gave you. It could be a hungry vampire, sniffing out his Valentine’s Day gorging.

So, why after hundreds of years of successful Valentines am I writing this letter now? Well, consider it my Valentine to you. If you prefer a pulse and to go out in the daylight, stay home on Valentine’s and eat a box of chocolate by yourself.

However, if you’re into that kind of thing and wouldn’t mind spending eternity roaming the moonlit streets with a bloke like me – 400 years on this planet and I still have, mostly anyway, my matinee idol looks – then heed my advice: if you hear a knock on your door after dark on Valentine’s Day and a very formal looking man approaches with dark eyes, a wicked grin and roses, then by all means… let me in.

It could just be the finest night of your afterlife.

Oh, and “Merry Christmas!” Sorry. I mean, Happy Valentine’s Day!

Signed,

A Concerned Vampire

Thanks so much for joining us today, Rusty!

Giveaway:

One lucky winner will receive a copy of Vamplayers in the format of his/her choice (paperback or Kindle/Nook).

SYNOPSIS:

At the Afterlife Academy of Exceptionally Dark Arts, the vampires in training follow one of two tracks: they become either Sisters or Saviors. Of course, everyone wants to be a Savior, swooping into infested high schools in matching red leather jumpsuits and wielding crossbows, putting down swarming vampires with deadly efficiency.

But Lily Fielding is just a Sister—a Third Sister at that, a measly trainee. When Lily and her two Sisters, Alice and Cara, are called out to their latest assignment, she figures it’s just another run-of-the-mill gig: spot the Vamplayer (part vampire, part player), identify the predictably hot, trampy girl he’s set his eyes on, and befriend her before the Vamplayer can turn her to do his bidding.

Finding the sleek and sexy Vamplayer, Tristan, and his equally beautiful and popular target, Bianca, is easy. And when Lily meets the adorably geeky Zander, she too falls under a lover’s spell. But this assignment turns out to be trickier than most when the Third Sister must battle the baddest vampire of all.
