30 Day Book Challenge - Day 3: A Book that completely surprised you (bad/good)

Day 3: A Book that completely surprised you (bad/good).

The book that surprised me the most this year was Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire. I was not prepared for how completed absorbed that I would become in the story! I was totally sucked in and could not put it down! So, this one surprised me in a good way!

Another book that surprised me in a good way this year was Never Enough by Denise Jaden.

I received this book for review, and I was a bit iffy on it because I do not read the YA Contemporary genre. This book tackled heavy topics, such as: peer pressure, cliques, sex, and eating disorders (anorexia and bulimia). The book had me on an emotional rollercoaster and, because I enjoyed it so much, I will consider reading more of this genre!

A book that surprised me in a bad way was The Gunslinger by Stephen King:

With all the hype about how great The Dark Tower series is and that it is considered King's "masterpiece," I really was expecting more! It was "just okay" for me.

What about you? Have you read any of these books? If so, what did you think?

What book completely surprised you this year? I would love to hear from you! Just leave a comment below!

  1. 11-22-63 was the book for me that blew me away. Stephen King is an amazing storyteller, and when I initially got the book I was hesitant reading due to the political content. I hate political anything..... At any rate, it was amazing and even at over 800 pages, I would read it again.

    1. Hi, fredamans! I've been shying away from 11-22-63 because of the political content. I'm glad to hear that it wasn't a hindrance to your enjoyment!

  2. Years ago I started reading The Gunslinger Series. In fact, I started reading it when he was still calling it a trilogy. I got to #4 before I lost interest. I'm trying again and I just completed #2. I hope to complete the entire series. I hope he actually ends it or I may be out of luck at the rate I'm going!

I really am a Stephen King fan, but I think he could still benefit from a strong editor who can rein him back in. While reading the Dark Tower books I actually feel the world 'moving on' - without me.

    1. Hi, Snowball! I much prefer King's horror books to the Dark Tower series...mind you, that opinion is based solely on reading just the first book in the series. I hope it gets better!
